A Story about Two Military Spouse Careers
Imagine two military spouses. They are similar in age, and personality – warm, charismatic, and ambitious. They have crazy kids that they love more than anything, and a supportive spouse who happens to be in the military. They both have a college education.
Our first spouse in this story feels lost when it comes to her career. She’s moved so many times with the military that she has almost lost count, and took a break from her career when her babies were young. Now that they are older, she knows that she wants to do something but feels unsure of what skills she can offer to an employer. She’s tried a few things (direct sales, an hourly job) but they didn’t excite or challenge her. She feels lost, a little insecure, and not sure where to turn.
Our second spouse has a different story. She has a career that gets her excited to get out of bed in the morning –the kind of work that doesn’t feel like a job at all. She knows that she is using her talents to the fullest, and in the best way possible. She feels a sense of accomplishment at the end of a day and feels challenged (in a good way) to find creative solutions in her work.
What did the second military spouse do that the first didn’t? She took time to self-actualize her career dreams and inventory her true skills. This is the most important step in finding career success for military spouses, but a step many overlook by simply not knowing where to start. But there is light at the end of the tunnel…
Military Spouse Foundation Gets You Prepared
Roxanne Reed, who dealt with the same struggles as all military spouses do – frequent moves, the job market and challenging lifestyle, founded the Military Spouse Foundation. She discovered a process that helped bring focus to her career and went on to found two successful businesses and most recently, the Military Spouse Foundation. The Military Spouse Foundation is a nonprofit organization built specifically for military spouses to help them achieve their career dreams. The program was built from Roxanne’s (and other military spouses’) discoveries that fueled career success, with the help of top career experts and human resources professionals.
